Walking in Their Shoes: First-Person Insights Into HIV Stigma

Despite significant progress in the treatment and prevention of HIV, stigma and bias may be encountered throughout the care continuum. A lack of accurate knowledge and misconceptions among healthcare providers can inadvertently add to the heavy burden faced by individuals with HIV, especially in rural and underserved communities that are disproportionately impacted by the condition. This can foster feelings of mistrust, frustration, and alienation, ultimately leading to disengagement from vital ongoing care.

This three-part CME/CE series offers an immersive look into healthcare encounters from the first-hand perspectives of people living with HIV. Through real-world scenarios and personal narratives, each video highlights how stigma can manifest in subtle yet powerful ways. Clinicians will also be guided through practical strategies to foster a more inclusive, compassionate, and welcoming care environment—ultimately transforming the patient experience.
