Navigating Patient Conversations: Strategies to Ensure Equitable Access to HIV Prevention and PrEP in Rural and Underserved Communities
Despite more than a decade of proven effectiveness, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) remains underutilized—particularly in rural and underserved communities where structural barriers and health inequities persist. Primary care clinicians are well-positioned to identify individuals at risk, offer testing, and recommend PrEP, yet many feel uncomfortable initiating conversations about sexual health. This series of three brief, 15-minute CME/CE activities uses mock patient-provider interactions to model best practices for these discussions. Expert faculty will provide practical strategies to incorporate PrEP into routine care, tailor options to individual needs and preferences, and address common adherence challenges.
