Program Overview
Advances in the understanding of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) have led to the development of new treatment options. As clinical data continues to emerge, clinicians must be aware of how to integrate these new therapies into their practice so they can improve the diagnosis and treatment of the disorder to reduce the associated clinical and public-health burden. In part two of an overall three-part educational series, lipid experts will discuss how clinicians can improve awareness, screening, and diagnosis of HoFH to reduce delays in treatment initiation. The education will also focus on improving communication between clinicians and patients with HoFH and their families.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Distinguish suggested screening approaches and diagnostic criteria for HoFH
- Review strategies for incorporating therapies for HoFH into a patient-centered management plan
- Discuss the mechanisms of action and efficacy and safety data for newer agents for HoFH, including emerging indications
