Target Audience
The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of rheumatology and primary care clinicians (MDs/DOs/NPs/PAs) who treat patients with RA, including rheumatology nursing professionals and other allied healthcare professionals on the care team.
Program Overview
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can be a challenging condition to manage, though there are particular barriers and challenges in treating both female patients and patients of color. Clinicians who treat patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from various races, ethnicities, and genders would benefit from education that provides guidance on how to interpret RA management recommendations while attempting to overcome social inequities and other barriers to care as well as balance safety and efficacy of treatment to optimize outcomes for patients. Join a panel consisting of a rheumatologist and a primary care provider with RA expertise to discuss how gender and race can influence treatment decisions and how guidelines and real-world evidence for treatments for RA such as disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs and JAK inhibitors can impact RA patients.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Summarize updated recommendations from ACR and EULAR for RA diagnosis and treatment with csDMARD, bDMARD, and tsDMARD
- Review best practices for stepping up and switching therapy for RA
- Review long-term safety and efficacy data and real-world evidence with tsDMARD for RA
- Discuss how gender and race can influence treatment decision with b/tsDMARDs to achieve remission
