Target Audience
This activity is designed specifically for primary care clinicians including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team who care for patients from rural and underserved communities.
Program Overview
The need for improved HIV prevention remains high in rural and underserved areas, particularly in the Southeast region of the United States. This CME/CE activity, which is Part 2 of the two-part series entitled PrEP for HIV Prevention: Expanding Access in Rural and Underserved Communities, uses a case-based approach to highlight practical strategies for preventing HIV with pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Through diverse patient scenarios, expert faculty will demonstrate how to identify candidates for PrEP and individualize regimens based on factors such as adherence, comorbidities, drug interactions, and cost. The cases will also explore best practices for addressing challenges unique to rural and underserved settings such as limited access to care and barriers to persistence. By applying clinical evidence and real-world decision-making, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to optimize PrEP use and expand its reach and impact across diverse patient populations.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Identify individuals who may be candidates for PrEP through routine sexual history-taking and conversations about sexual health
- Apply the latest evidence and guidance for initiating, monitoring, and discontinuing PrEP
