Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of the primary care team (physicians, NPs, PAs, and nurses) and other members of the health care team who care for patients with obesity or overweight.

Program Overview

This interactive, case-based activity will explore barriers to effectively managing and treating obesity or overweight in the primary care setting. Specifically, the barriers discussed are those pertaining to the health care provider, such as lack of skills and confidence to discuss weight with your patients, clinician perceptions and biases, and lack of confidence in managing obesity treatment. Learners will utilize multimedia elements and a trained AI companion to actively participate in this session and practice behaviors and skills as they are discussed.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Prioritize the management of obesity in treatment plans for patients with obesity or overweight and comorbid complications
  • Utilize evidence-based strategies to establish treatment plans with patients with obesity or overweight
  • Modify treatment plans for patients with obesity or overweight based on composite medical outcomes, including comorbidities and cardiometabolic risk measures
