A national and international audience of primary care physicians (PCPs), pediatricians, and general practitioners (GPs), and other healthcare providers involved in childhood health.
Program Overview
Pediatricians possess the expertise to recognize an incredible range of illnesses, disease states, and developmental red flags. They’re also trained to make informed decisions about when specialized care is truly necessary. Knowing when a referral to a subspecialist is warranted is rooted in having a robust understanding of – and adherence to – clinical practice guidelines. Yet, these guidelines are underutilized by a large percentage of pediatricians. Empowering pediatricians to rely on established guidelines while also improving the interface of primary and specialty care in pediatrics is central to improving patient care outcomes.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Recognize the role of adherence to clinical practice guidelines in improving patient outcomes and the efficiency of the healthcare system.
- Identify appropriate thresholds for referring pediatric patients to medical subspecialists for common conditions seen in the primary care setting.
