Target Audience
This activity is intended for US orthopedic (spine) surgeons, physiatrists, physical therapists, interventional radiologists, pain specialists, neurologists, pediatric neurologists, pediatricians, primary care physicians (PCPs), and other HCPs involved in the management of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).
Program Overview
This activity includes a short discussion on multidisciplinary care and available therapeutic options for patients with SMA, and two short patient-case presentations highlighting the importance of collaborative rehabilitative, orthopedic, and surgical management of common complications of SMA, such as spine deformities, contractures, and hip imbalance.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Design individualized collaborative care plans for patients with SMA following best practice recommendations
- Outline optimal interdisciplinary management strategies for orthopedic and biomechanical complications of SMA
- Discuss the clinical application of current therapeutic options for SMA and management considerations across the patient spectrum
