Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity includes endocrinology, obesity, primary care, and pediatrics physicians as well as pharmacists involved in the management of patients with obesity.
Program Overview
Advancements in obesity research have revolutionized our understanding of the disease as a complex disorder of energy dysregulation, paving the way for novel therapeutic approaches. Among these, amylin—a key hormone involved in satiety and energy regulation—has emerged as a promising new target for obesity treatment. Now, clinician awareness of amylin's role and its potential is on the rise. Key topics of this activity include amylin’s role in the metabolic processes underlying obesity, emerging amylin-based therapies, and the latest clinical evidence supporting their potential role in obesity management. A panel discussion will also provide insights into the future integration of amylin-targeting therapies within clinical practice. This activity will enhance clinicians' ability to evaluate and apply emerging treatments to their patients with obesity, ultimately improving outcomes for individuals struggling with this chronic disease.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Summarize the physiological role of amylin in obesity regulation.
- Outline the mechanism of action of amylin-based therapies and how they contribute to improved obesity management.
- Assess the most recent clinical data on emerging amylin-based therapies for patients with obesity.
