The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of psychiatrists, neurologists, and advanced care practitioners (ACPs) involved in the care of people with Alzheimer’s disease and AAD.
Program Overview
Agitation associated with dementia (AAD) due to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the most stressful and complex aspects of living with AD, for both those with AAD and their caregivers. Early recognition is crucial to make the most of newly approved therapies for AAD.
In this four-module education, join Dr. George Grossberg, an expert psychiatrist, and Dr. Alireza Atri, an expert neurologist, as they discuss the importance of early diagnosis, available screening tools for clinicians and caregivers, and the latest on effective, timely treatment, including how to effectively implement novel treatments in care. Video clips of caregivers for a people living with AAD will elucidate the challenges of obtaining a diagnosis of AAD, and barriers to treatment access, and communicating with HCPs to highlight gaps in care. The panel will provide strategies that clinicians can utilize in daily practice to overcome these challenges. Case-based modules will also offer practical guidance on applying the latest findings and tools in clinical practice to improve outcomes for people with AAD.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Summarize the differential-diagnosis process to accurately identify people with AAD
- Utilize validated screening tools to identify people experiencing signs and symptoms suggestive of AAD
- Review personalized treatment plans for people with AAD, taking into consideration the latest safety and efficacy data on available therapies for AAD
