Target Audience
This activity was developed for family physicians, internists, advanced practitioners and pharmacists who have a role in the diagnosis, management, and monitoring of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or H. pylori infection.
Program Overview
In this 60-minute, case-based educational activity, multidisciplinary faculty guide clinicians through contemporary diagnostic techniques and evidence-based treatment strategies for both nonerosive and erosive GERD, as well as H. pylori infection. The primary care-oriented activity includes discussion on the importance of understanding the pathophysiology of these conditions, addressing the risks associated with the long-term use of proton pump inhibitors, and integrating newly approved therapeutic options, all to address unmet needs in current practice.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe the natural history and burden of GERD and H. pylori infections.
- Identify appropriate tests to support decision-making in the differential diagnosis of GERD and H. pylori infections.
- Individualize therapy in patients with nonerosive or erosive GERD who achieve an inadequate response to PPI therapy.
- Evaluate the latest evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of H. pylori infections, including implementing effective eradication regimens and addressing antibiotic resistance.
