Program Overview
Are you doing everything you can to help people with epilepsy optimize their brain health? Brain health is for everyone — including people with epilepsy.
Celebrity advocates Peri Gilpin and Seth Green join epilepsy nurse specialist, Patty Shafer, RN, MN, and neurologist, Christi Heck, MD, Medical Director of the Epilepsy Program at USC, to walk you through the latest about brain health, seizure action plans, and seizure rescue therapies. Seizure rescue therapies are medications given by patients/care partners to treat seizures and prevent seizure emergencies. Adults living with epilepsy share their perspectives on these important topics. You will also learn quick ways to improve epilepsy care every day and find resources for patients, care partners, and health professionals.
Learning Goal/Purpose
The goal of this educational activity is to enhance the knowledge, competence, and confidence that nurses need to help people with epilepsy optimize their brain health and individualize seizure rescue therapy and seizure action plans.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe how to help adults with epilepsy optimize their brain health
- Assess the need for a seizure rescue therapy and provide treatment options
- Describe efficient ways to integrate brain health, rescue therapies, and seizure action plans
