Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is physicians and nurse practitioners specializing in psychiatry as well as pharmacists who are involved in the management of patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD).
Program Overview
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) presents ongoing challenges for psychiatric clinicians, including delayed recognition, trial-and-error treatment sequencing, and high relapse rates. Many patients remain on sequential monoaminergic therapies despite multiple treatment failures, contributing to persistent symptoms, functional decline, and increased disease burden. In this CE program, expert faculty review the diagnostic complexity of TRD and the importance of earlier, individualized intervention. They also discuss evidence-based tools to help identify patients whose management plans may benefit from modification and explore strategies for developing personalized treatment approaches using innovative therapies that aim to sustain remission and prevent relapse. A case-based discussion will reinforce key concepts and guide learners through practical application of evidence-based decision-making in TRD management.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Recognize the diagnostic complexity of TRD and the need for earlier, individualized intervention.
- Use evidence-based tools to identify patients with TRD who may benefit from alteration to current management plans.
- Develop personalized treatment plans for patients with TRD using innovative therapies that sustain remission and prevent relapse.
