Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of pulmonology, radiology, and primary care clinicians (MDs/DOs/NPs/PAs)

Program Overview

Due to various presentations that can mimic other pulmonary diseases, non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFBE) is largely under-recognized and under-diagnosed. While the standard of care for NCFBE has focused on managing symptoms, emerging targeted therapies in development offer new hope as potential treatment options.

Join an expert panel of pulmonologists to learn how to conduct a diagnostic work-up of NCFBE and differentiate it from other lung diseases. Panelists will explain the roles of neutrophilic inflammation and neutrophil serine proteases in the pathophysiology of NCFBE, share experiences with standard treatment options, and examine clinical data for novel investigative therapies. Experts will also explore the disease burden associated with NCFBE, including the impacts of comorbid conditions on lung function and quality of life.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Identify risk factors, signs, symptoms, and comorbid conditions associated with NCFBE
  • Review steps in making a differential diagnosis
  • Explain the roles of neutrophilic inflammation and neutrophil serine proteases (NSPs) in the pathophysiology of NCFBE
  • Describe the mechanisms of action and potential roles in care of emerging NCFBE treatments
  • Recognize the impact of inadequately managed NCFBE on lung function, infection risk, morbidity, mortality, and quality of life
