Program Overview
Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) brings about symptoms of pain, fatigue, and sexual dysfunction. These symptoms disrupt daily life and impact well-being and point to a need for improved treatment strategies. Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy following transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) has long been the standard of care for high-risk (HR) NMIBC; however, more than half of patients relapse or progress within 1 to 2 years, and 30% to 40% develop BCG-unresponsive disease (BCG-UR).
Clinicians must be aware of these new bladder-sparing treatments that are reshaping the care landscape for BCG-UR NMIBC, including how these agents work and how they differ from traditional and existing therapies. In this online, on-demand educational session, an expert urologist and an expert oncologist will discuss the safety and efficacy data for these novel therapies, as well as how to individualize treatment decisions and match the right therapy to each patient based on disease characteristics, clinical goals, and treatment feasibility. After this activity, clinicians will feel empowered to evaluate, adopt, and implement these novel options in everyday practice.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Outline the mechanisms of action of novel therapies for BCG-unresponsive NMIBC
- Review efficacy and safety data for novel therapies in BCG-unresponsive NMIBC
- Compare novel treatment options for BCG-unresponsive NMIBC by incorporating patient-specific factors to support clinical decision-making
