Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of dementia specialists, neurologists, geriatricians, geriatric psychiatrists, primary care providers, imaging physicians, advanced practice providers (NPs/PAs), but is relevant to all members of the multidisciplinary team that manage patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Program Overview

This simulation-based module, led by Dr Chuck Vega and featuring his mother, Pat Vega, brings shared decision-making (SDM) to life in the context of biomarker use in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Drawing from their family’s experience, they demonstrate the importance and key principles of SDM. Throughout the realistic clinical case, learners will navigate key decision points, including choices around biomarker use, communication strategies, and care planning for patients and their care partners.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: 

  • Establish an SDM approach that prioritizes empathetic and clear communication with patients and caregivers throughout the biomarker testing process
