Target Audience
The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of physicians, PAs & NPs involved in the treatment of patients with SLE.
Program Overview
This virtual program guides you in treating patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). With the goal of fostering improved patient care in rural areas, sessions investigate crucial educational gaps on topics such as reducing over-reliance on glucocorticoids and optimizing the use of newer biologic agents. Emphasizing enhanced patient adherence and identifying health disparities, program discussions elevate the standard of care, ensuring rural SLE patients receive comprehensive, equitable, and quality treatment comparable to their urban counterparts. Together, experts and providers collaborate to discuss de-identified patient cases and develop recommendations for care.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Summarize the need for patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) to capture the holistic impact of SLE on patients' lives
- Assess the impact of the shortage of rheumatology healthcare providers on SLE patient outcomes and disease management
- Implement remote consultation platforms effectively to facilitate communication and collaboration between rural healthcare providers and urban-based rheumatologists
- Apply evidence-based strategies to reduce glucocorticoid dependence while maintaining disease control in SLE patients
- Develop personalized treatment plans that optimize the use of newer biologic agents in eligible patients, taking into consideration individual patient needs
- Identify methodologies to promote equitable and patient-centered care for diverse SLE populations in rural settings keeping in mind barriers such as: patient education, communication, and cultural differences
