Addressing Disparities: Improving Eye Care in Patients With Diabetes
Because disparities in care exist, it is important for clinicians to understand the social determinants that their patients may experience. By engaging in multidisciplinary collaboration, patient education, screening, and earlier treatment for patients with or at risk for diabetic retinopathy, clinicians identify and mitigate barriers to eye care in patients who are at higher risk for vision loss or blindness from diabetes, such as older patients and members of racial/ethnic minorities.
