Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for cardiologists, primary care physicians, and supporting healthcare professionals who manage patients with obesity.
Program Overview
This enduring activity has been designed for healthcare professionals who manage obesity patients. The program will seek to help HCPs increase their recognition of obesity as a disease; recognize the burden of comorbidities associated with obesity; and increase their ability to apply clinical data to guide treatment selection for obesity. Learners will also recognize the need for implementing guideline-based management of obesity across providers and increase their comfort with the integration of weight reduction pharmacotherapy.
Learning Objectives
Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Summarize the characteristics of obesity from a pathophysiologic perspective, including effects on cardiovascular outcomes and associated disease-related burdens
- Evaluate barriers to recognition of obesity as a medical diagnosis in the cardiology setting that require therapeutic intervention in addition to lifestyle change
- Interpret clinical evidence in weight reduction with currently available and emerging therapies for obesity management from a cardiology perspective
- Synthesize best practices from evidence-based guidelines to individualize the medical management of obesity from a cardiology perspective
- Assess best practices for the cardiologist in coordination of multidisciplinary care and shared decision-making approaches for patients with obesity
