Optimal VTE Prophylaxis Across Care Settings to Prevent Thrombosis-Related Rehospitalizations

Three expert faculty discuss extended thromboprophylaxis in acutely ill medical patients, with emphasis on the post-discharge period, during which approximately 80% of hospital-related venous thromboembolisms (VTEs) occur. Four separate 15-minute, individually accredited activities deliver education on nuanced aspects of VTE prevention, with particular attention to the utility and use of VTE and bleeding risk assessment models to identify patients at high risk of VTE and low risk of bleeding who may benefit most from extended thromboprophylaxis, including data on VTE prevention in patients recovering from COVID-19.
