Clinical Perspectives on the Use of Immunotherapy in Managing Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer
eTutorial Webcast
Although patients with localized prostate cancer generally have excellent long-term survival, those with high-risk, locally advanced, and metastatic disease have a poorer prognosis. Prostate tumors in this setting usually respond initially to surgical castration or medical castration with androgen-deprivation strategies. However, the tumors eventually develop the ability to grow, and ultimately metastasize in the absence of androgens. Important clinical needs remain for improved management approaches for patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer. Advances in immunological sciences have allowed for the development of immune-targeted approaches specifically designed for this treatment setting. A number of these strategies are either available or in late-stage development.
This eTutorial Webcast will assess current and emerging methods that apply immune-based strategies to the treatment of castration-resistant prostate cancer. During this program, traditional management strategies for castration-resistant prostate cancer will be reviewed. The basic science that underlies the development of immunological strategies for prostate cancer will be explored, as well as clinical trials that have assessed these approaches in patients with these tumors.
