Myelosuppression: The Challenge of Managing Invasive Fungal Infections in Patients With Acute Myelogenous Leukemia
A CME/CE Certified Webcast-on-Demand
Immunosuppression related to acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and chemotherapy for treating AML places patients at risk for serious infections, including invasive fungal infections (IFIs). The management of such
opportunistic infections is a critical component in the care of patients with this type of leukemia. Contemporary management of IFIs has become challenging due to the changing epidemiology of these infections and the difficulties related to their diagnosis. Since monotherapy may be unsuccessful, other strategies, including combination therapy and immune enhancement strategies have been investigated to treat IFIs.
This webcast will discuss recent changes in the epidemiology of IFIs and available methods for their identification in patients with AML. Current and emerging approaches to the treatment of IFIs will be explored. Additionally, the webcast will include a debate by program faculty on important issues associated with AML-related IFIs.
The ultimate goal of this educational program is the clinical application of program content to improve outcomes for patients being treated for AML.
